The story is simple, but it works well enough because the leads have solid chemistry and make the relationship feel easy to follow and believable. What stands out most is the music itself. The songwriting scenes and performances add real personality to the movie, and they keep it from feeling like just another standard romantic film. There is a light emotional quality to it that makes it easy to sit through and enjoy. It is not a film that goes especially deep or takes many risks, and some parts feel familiar, but it still has enough warmth and music-driven appeal to make it worth watching. The stars spark off each other and the supporting cast is very strong. It's one of those films that you can watch every so often with friends and family singing along with the catchy tune and laughing before the acturs say their (by now) well known punchlines.
