The jokes hit about half the time; when they land, they can be pretty fuckin’ hilarious, but there are long stretches where the humor misfires or just feels stretched out. It’s less a tightly plotted film and more a loose series of sketches and running gags, and by the end it does overstay its welcome. The best jokes are the subtle ones: Richard Lewis’s ever-shifting mole, the complete lack of period authenticity, and Dave Chappelle (so young here!) playing Ahchoo with a ridiculous backwards-cap bycocket. These quieter moments often land better than the broad, over-the-top slapstick. Unfortunately for us modern viewers, a lot of the film’s humor depends on early ’90s cultural winks and pop-culture references. At the time, those probably felt very fresh, but now some of it just feels obscure . Watching it today can be a little baffling, like watching Deadpool in 2050 or something. Overall, Men in Tights is entertaining and affectionate as a parody. It’s not genius-level Brooks, but it has charm, a few solid laughs, and some clever bits that make it worth rewatching if you’re in the mood for light, nostalgia-tinged silliness.
