Sigh. Not to moan about how things were better in the good old days, things have clearly moved backwards in kid-aimed animation, so now we routinely get this sort of ersatz DreamWorks storyworld where everything looks like a screensaver.

Although it's not likely to knock out unsuspecting adults, The Land of Sometimes is sure to please younger audiences. And it's heartening to see a distinctively British film that appeals to the whole family gain wider distribution.

It’s a fitting subtitle, and indicative of the level on which this movie ultimately operates: sometimes, not always. A competent animated film that is enjoyable in bursts, but never rises above the promise of its more interesting parts.
