Critics Consensus

The Man Who Knew Infinity might be a tad too conventional to truly do its subject justice, but Dev Patel and Jeremy Irons elevate the end result beyond mere biopic formula.

The Man Who Knew Infinity is moving, but not as compelling as the real life story of the genius it celebrates. The definitive film on Ramanujan remains to be made... Go to Full Review

Conventional biopic The Man Who Knew Infinity focuses less on its protagonist, the Indian mathematician S. Ramanujan, than on the Brits who worked with him. Go to Full Review

Chris B @Papa13070 23h This outstanding movie is about a little known Indian mathematical genius, Srinivasa Ramanujan who leaves his hometown in Madras to work in Cambridge University. Such a different world for the young Ramanujan who gets excited by a pile of blank papers on his desk, a commodity hard to come by in Madras. Shunned by many of his peers, he sets out to prove his 'theories' with the help of G.H.Hardy. Dev Patel and Jeremy Irons are fantastic in the two lead roles, and Toby Jones does a great job as Littlewood. There are some great shots by Matt Brown, when Ramanujan's wife Janaki walks into the temple through an 'array of sunbeams' stands out in my mind, but the main thing is, the story has now been told and is well worth watching. See more Joseph C @RTJoe Jan 26 Patel and Irons deliver amazing work, but somehow I expected more. See more Prakash S @Arcane56 Jan 6 An underrated film, as my opinion, a must watch film. This biopic beautifully captured the life of Sir Srinivasa Ramanujan. See more Rehan T @RT81460504 05/25/2025 Absolute banger of a movie... See more Stealth H @RT15549478 05/21/2025 The script and the filming are every bit as good as chariots of of a fire, except that all the characters are likable. The movie leave you with a feeling that you wish you had friends like that. See more Ari V @RT59419633 03/29/2025 I doubt the truth of this (or most such 'high society' stories for that matter) is anywhere near this innocent, but a reasonably touching and enjoyable meditation nevertheless.
