There's value in the old cliché still, and The Secret Garden may be the best excuse yet to re-air it. Go to Full Review

Today's Secret Garden is modern to its core: socially conscious, but also wildly overstimulated. Go to Full Review

The Secret Garden is a magical mirage of brilliant colour pinned against the backdrop of darkness and loss that illustrates the beautiful escapism of a child’s imagination. Go to Full Review

In a postmodern era where it seems that the originality of cinematographic language is at a detriment due to constant remakes, spin-offs, sequels, prequels and new versions of all kinds, El Jardín Secreto (The Secret Garden, 2020) is no exception. Go to Full Review

I did very much appreciate the film's depiction of the garden, with elements of crumbling old castle, and CGI that allows the filmmakers to amp the charm and mystery up to 100. Go to Full Review

Cathy B @cathy210 2d It was slow in the beginning but by the end of it, The Secret Garden reminds me of what life is really about. How we misunderstand & judge each other, the secrets slowly revealed, parents extreme influence on their children, our passed loved ones are around rooting for us and the power of joy, friendship & nature. The setting and costumes were also AMAZING I was in awe every time seeing that sultry green walls come on screen then the colors would bounce onto Marys clothing. Beautiful film! See more Meri S. @mschroeder 4d I’ll need the agree with the audience on this one. Just slow and boring. The best part if the movie is the scruff dog. See more ULYANA D. @ulyana Mar 14 The movie was not bad, good story, just very slow in the beginning which kinda throws off the mood. See more Cheri S @Cesscooter Feb 22 I procrastinated watching this, feeling that nothing could top the 1993 version with Maggie Smith. This was, IMHO, a bit too OTT with tropical plants (in the moors of England) CGI, and underwhelming acting overall. The exception to this was Julie Walters, who made a very convincing Mrs. Medlock. It was certainly not Colin Firth’s best. This movie took many, many liberties and, sadly, cameod some ‘Easter eggs’ , the significance of which assumed that watchers would already know the story. (The skipping rope, the bird, et al). And no Susan Sowerby, no Ben Wetherstaff at all??? Nope. See more Katyabatya K @LemonBum Dec 31 I’m not sure where the goal was here. It is in no way an improvement to the 1993 adaptation which far better adheres to the books premise. The gardens growth and magic is supposed to work in tandem with the characters. The main theme is transformation, which I see very little of here. It’s not supposed to be a mere observation of a secret world by some random kids. Mary is supposed to begin as sullen and almost seemingly dead in her soul, like the grey twigs and brown, rotten earth. The discovery of a beautiful world as well as the beautiful soul within both Mary and Colin is something meant to unfurl slowly and with tension. The film just didn’t hit that mark. The CGI is garish at best, and the walled garden is not believable. I still enjoy watching anything with outdoors and beautiful plant life as a focus, but it really doesn’t stretch beyond that. See more David Brian O @RT91314735 Aug 24 Makes you wonder why they remade the 1993 film - and in doing so produced a film devoid of charm, without faith to the original story. Very disappointing. Avoid - instead find the 1993 film which is simply lovely See more Read all reviews
