Together with his trusted lieutenant and a merry band of brokers, Belfort makes a huge fortune by defrauding wealthy investors out of millions. However, while Belfort and his cronies partake in a hedonistic brew of sex, drugs and thrills, the SEC and the FBI close in on his empire of excess.

Critics Consensus

Funny, self-referential, and irreverent to a fault, The Wolf of Wall Street finds Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio at their most infectiously dynamic.

... A sprawling riot of bad taste and consumption — and tremendously entertaining if you’re in the right mood. Go to Full Review

The film has roused censure for glorifying crime, with scant, awkwardly realised minutes paid to Belfort's eventual comeuppance. But surely 71-year-old Scorsese, a one-time wannabe priest whose work is preoccupied with morality, did that deliberately? Go to Full Review

Scorsese is fascinated by procedure, by drawing back the curtain and showing us how things happen, though he keeps the picture nimble and entertaining enough to avoid burying himself in the minutiae. Go to Full Review

Scorsese depicts an intriguing and marvelously loathsome human beast in its natural setting, where the verdict on its judgment lies in the hands of its audience. Go to Full Review

"The Wolf of Wall Street" doesn't want to be lovable. It just wants to remind you how excessive wealth can get and catch you being entertained by it. You can't target excessiveness to hate without being excessive in its depiction. Go to Full Review

carmen M Mar 3 If you like money, you like this movie, oh my God DiCaprio got a love them in this movie so good Menahan also so good See more Bright R. @DBright 1d The Wolf of Wall Street is one wild ride. From the start, it pulls you back in time and throws you headfirst into a chaotic, over-the-top experience that somehow just keeps getting crazier the longer you watch. This movie doesn’t just show chaos and comedy, it is chaos and comedy. You don’t need to spell it out or explain it. If you’re watching this movie, you’re already living it. Every scene escalates, every moment feels bigger than the last, and somehow it never completely loses control. Yes, it’s a long watch, but it earns every minute. It’s the kind of movie where you sit back afterward and realize you just went on a full journey. Excessive, ridiculous, hilarious, and unforgettable. Strong recommendation. Buckle up and let it rip. See more Frans B @FransB 1d Masterpiece! Scorsese at his best here, seems to be in his element 😜 DiCaprio convincing to a fault in character, whole stellar cast excels in character. Great story, very well written. Very good cinematography and visually stunning. Lots of action, off beat shenanigans, drama, suspense, tomfoolery, intrigue, emotion and amazement. Captivating and very entertaining See more Daniel D @Daniellahav 1d Might not be "objectively" the best but my personal favourite This movie (in my opinion) is the pure definition of "absolute cinema" the protagonist of the movie is not a good guy , he is a horrible garbage of a human being but GOD did i enjoy watching it.. The movie makes you feel like you just sniffed a powder but at the same time makes you watch the outcome.. I think the movie is a masterpiece not because it's glorifying being a dic* but because it shows you did wish the right circumstances you'd become a dic* too.. See more Clinton K @CKelz 4d It's been awhile since I watched this movie but it was very entertaining, well written (adaptation), and the actors did a great job capturing the era and captivating the audience. This movie spawned many memes including the fan favorite "I'm not fkn leaving!". Classic. See more James B 5d A wild, wild story. The acting, plot and dialogue for this move were fantastic. My only complaint is that at 3 hours it feels like the story could have been shortened a bit in places. Some scenes go on and on and feel like they didn't need to be as drawn out. A crazy story and it is worth a watch if you have the 3 hour committment. See more Read all reviews
