See more Terri M @RT43487549 Nov 11 So to start, yes as the movie it did condense 4 yrs into 1 year. For the sake of keeping the flow this was needed. No one wants to sit through a 6 hours movie if they had tried to keep the 4 yr time. Now the movie itself is a great reminder of how the big three can control who can produce cars. They didn't and still don't like competition. Jeff Bridges is perfect as Preston Tucker. Even the Tucker family said he had the portrayal down pat. The rest of the cast are wonderfully chosen. They completely fill the roles , including Dean Stockwell as Howard Hughes. This a family film that can be enjoyed by ages 15-115. Females and makes alike. You don't have to be a car enthusiast to enjoy this movie. It's too bad it didn't do as well as expected at box office, but that's more the result of the times rather then the quality of the film. I'm a female and I throughly enjoyed the film as did my family. 5 daughters! So yes it's a feel good movie but it also gives you glimpse of history that shouldn't be forgotten. 48 of the 51 Tucker cars still exsist. That's impressive. As well as all the features that Preston Tucker developed, that were later used by the big 3 in the future. Sit back , grab your popcorn and enjoy this cult classic that should be seen by everyone. See more Hughe J @Hughe Jul 21 Tucker The Man and His Dream was released in theatres in 1988 and stars Jeff Bridges and Martin Landau, among others, with the iconic Francis Ford Coppola directing. Jeff Bridges plays Preston Tucker who following WWII has the belief that he can start his own car company and build the best cars ever made. He not only challenges the country's biggest automakers but also goes head to head with the US government. This movie is based on the true story of Preston Tucker and his dream to build better cars and many of his original vehicles are still running today as shown throughout the film; Coppola actually owns two of them. Jeff Bridges was excellent as usual and the same can be said of Martin Landau. This is a classic Coppola movie with beautiful cinematography, great score, and solid writing. For me this is a classic movie and an excellent period piece and always worth a watch. This is about Francis Ford Coppola and/or George Lucas trying desperately to make art in a system made up of people who only want to make money.
