A space-time vortex sucks scientist Rick Marshall (Will Ferrell), his assistant Holly (Anna Friel) and a survivalist Will (Danny R. McBride) into a world populated by dinosaurs and painfully slow creatures called Sleestaks. With few resources at their disposal, Rick, Holly and Will must rely on their only ally, a primate named Chaka (Jorma Taccone), to try to survive long enough to figure out a way back home.

Only loosely based on the original TV series, Land of the Lost is decidedly less kid-friendly and feels more like a series of inconsistent sketches than a cohesive adventure comedy.

The sets and CG creatures have a kind of what-the-hell weirdness and tactility that successful recreates the show’s aesthetic on a bigger budget, while Ferrell and McBride still have room to goof around.

I will be honest: the effects in Land of the Lost are amazing. Of course, I want to say 100%, but I kind of love the world-building of Land of the Lost. Even though I never watched the show and have zero knowledge of it, I still find it amazing in a way—the effects. My one big takeaway is the gross-out humor. Is it really necessary? The urine sequence, like...? I swear, I feel like a frat guy wrote this. The writing could be better, though. But since every 2000s big-budget movie had to attract audiences with what they thought was best because of those BS graphics, I get it. I am sad that this movie didn't get the love it deserves. Aside from the humor and writing, I think they had something here, and I believe it could have been a fun movie based on an old TV show that people cherished. But I guess the moral of the story is: never trust a studio-pitched movie.

This movie is super underrated magic. It should be a cult classic in comedy. It is a bit dumb, but definitely one of my favorite comedies of all time .

I found this old thing deep within the basement, it was good. Yhe comedy was descent. Did not know that they turned the (way better) show into a movie.

I don’t understand the hate. Tons of funny skits. Cool world. Cheesy costumes and props. Can’t watch it enough. Just another great film by Will Ferrell and Danny McBride.
