As someone who grew up on a different world this show hit all the feels. I think it’s the best sequel I have ever seen See more kewl J @RT72376443 12 hrs ago FUBU I didn’t expect the reboot to perfectly match the original—and of course it didn’t—but I did have one requirement: it needed to be entertaining. For me, it was. I only wish it leaned a little more into comedy. The new cast held its own, so I didn’t feel the need for the entire original lineup to return. Seeing Dwayne, Whitley, and a few familiar faces made sense, but bringing back nearly everyone felt unnecessary. It took about two episodes for me to get invested. The mix of youth, beauty, intelligence, and newfound independence created just the right amount of drama. I do wish Debbie Allen had directed the whole season; with ten episodes and a different director for each, the tone shifted more than I’d prefer. Fans have waited a long time for this reboot. Some will say it doesn’t measure up to the original, but I think it’s worth watching and deciding for yourself. Oh, and I'm hoping for another season because too many questions were left unanswered. The story lines were also done well while dealing with current events just as the original show did plus being cute and funny. Loved it. I was nervous with how they were going to make this reboot..big shoes to fill. However, they did such a fantastic job alluding to the OGs and their very realistic ties to Hillman as successful alumni. They were all able to do this without compromising the new generations storylines and place on the proverbial A Different World mantle. I'm usually a tough critic with shows but hands down A Different World is very much worth watching! The way I'm already looking forward to season 2 after binge watching the series in a day. Instead of natural character growth and witty banter, the writing feels like a rigid, with narrow undertones. The original cast is a mixed bag. Dawnn Lewis (Jaleesa) and Kadeem Hardison (Dwayne) effortlessly slip back into their roles with natural warmth, but everyone else comes across unnatural and abstract. As for the new generation, the writing relies on recycled clichés, and plotlines that halt character development. The pairing of the flighty freshman and her emotionally stable tutor, lacks any real chemistry —he functions more like a counselor than a romantic equal, giving him a weird upper hand. To top it all off, the finale's desperate cliffhangers feel like a soap-opera ploy that disregards the original show's logic. See more Goch Y @RT05618043 2 days ago As a huge fan of the original, I wanted to love this. I like it, but it often feels more like a Netflix interpretation of Gen Z than Gen Z itself. As someone actually around these characters’ age, some dialogue, behaviour and even the British representation feel noticeably written from the outside. The cast is diverse on paper, but those differences rarely create meaningful conversations or conflict. The original let Black characters disagree about race, religion, politics, sex and class, and its classroom debates genuinely taught you something. Here, important issues are often introduced then skimmed over, while sex and relationships dominate far too much of the story. Where is the intellectual curiosity, ambition and everyday college life? Ten episodes also rush relationships we haven’t had time to care about. I like these characters and want another season, but Hillman once felt like a living institution bigger than its cast.
