Chris L @Christoph2000 Mar 14 Mickey Rourke excels at villain roles, so at least the film has that going for it. What a pity that its quality mostly ranges from messy and irritating to outright abysmal. The divulgence of all the evil shit Mickey's bad guy is about to pull in the presence of the main character is eye-roll inducing even by the standards the Bond movies have long set for us. The Alex who plays Alex is just...meh. Andy Serkis more or less reprises Gollum without any dialogue. Bill Nighy has tragically been instructed to waste his incredible acting talent and ham it up to insanely stupid levels. The camerawork in those opening titles and the skyscraper sequence are undeniably impressive, but the level of deus ex machina around that point in the film made me want to throw in the towel entirely (something I never actually do, by the way). An Oakenfold-soundtracked horse chase? A sudden helicopter? Some of those production values recapture the aura of CBeebies pretty darn well. See more Octavio Y. @ItsNotMe189 Jan 1 Fun escapism. See more Blu B @RT43513976 04/02/2025 It's like a British Kim Possible/Agent Cody Banks mixed with all the cliches and tropes of 007. You get this as a result. The editing, cinematography, and pacing aren't good here and everything else is just alright. It jumps around setting up the plot, meeting the boring and wasted opportunity villian, and doesn't give alex hard;y any character. He's such a boring character with no charisma and as plain and vanilla as you can get. The Spy Kids literally have more depth than him. The other thing is too the actual supercomputer virus plot this sets up is so boring. The sets, action scenes, direction is all just super basic. You think this is gonna have a big action piece at the end and instead we get a lame horesback chase and a anticlimatic showdown on a rooftop. The action is such a letdown in this. You get some action at the start but that's it. And that's on top of basically no character setup or interesting supporting cast for Alex. The plot is just again a by the numbers 007 ripoff. You got the gadgets, the over the top moments, the fast cars, the "M" in charge, and the over the top villian. And yet somehow it just gets convuluted to follow honestly at points when Alex is investigating stuff. Skip This and watch Spy Kids 1 or 007 instead. Marked it four because it's a bit cheesy, but other than the cheesey acting, I think the casting was well done. It mostly follows the book too. It would be nice if it was a bit closer to the books.
