Kevin L @Lakeman Mar 31 In the film "Amores Perros", we view the lives of a successful model, selling herself to the flames of promise in her new relationship; a delusional youth fighting to prove his mettle to the woman he loves; and a vagrant hitman unhinged by a lack of love & perpetually on the search for some form of material & emotional sustenance, collide at an intersection in a disaster that will alter the course of their lives. However, it’s more than just an accident that connected the lives of these figures. Though depicting three disparate ages & echelons of Mexican society, the triptych of storylines finds their relevance to each other with a central theme of, as the film's title suggests, suffering caused by unfulfilled love. Strong work again by director Iñárritu & by screenwriter Arriaga. Appropriate, maintained tone, great editing, & almost shocking realism achieve Iñárritu's goals of expressing the main themes. 3.7 stars See more Christian M @chriss17eu Jan 30 'Amores perros' hits hard with intertwining stories of love, betrayal, and guilt, told with confidence and risk. Its structure—three segments of varying intensity—keeps the narrative tense, though the middle section feels slightly less engaging. Gael García shines with magnetic naturalism, while Goya Toledo surprises by making her character viscerally unsettling. The soundtrack stands out, weaving seamlessly into the narrative and heightening the film’s raw impact. Iñárritu and Arriaga masterfully order chaos without domesticating it. Not perfect, but intense, honest, and unforgettable, this is a film that lingers long after viewing.
