Eric L @Eric_94 Jul 23, 2026 It looks gorgeous, and I'd reference the "Cinema du Look" movement as well as Eric Rohmer. Anais is hard to like as a character, and you start to wonder if she's some kind of sociopath at times (she seems completely unaware of others' feelings as she garrulously chatters about her love life), but of course True Lurrrve begins to weave its spell as the film progresses. There are a couple of tropes in LGBTQ+ cinema (certainly "L" cinema) e.g. the protagonist watches the object of her affections give a talk or act in a play: cue a wistful, admiring gaze and lingering camera shots of the enraptured protagonist. The Amazing Coincidence Machine has been at work here, too, as Anais happens to bump into the longed-for Emilie in a busy Parisian street... what are the chances of that happening, eh? But the film is like a warm blanket overall, and Demoustier lights up the screen in a way reminiscent of Renate Reinsve - another actress skilled at playing young women on the edge of "something" See more Alain E @AlainE May 27, 2026 For two thirds of the movie Anais, who "happens" to have the same first name as the able actress playing her, is in a hypomanic state running up multiple flights of stairs, flying from relationship to relationship with different men and having an abortion without a second thought. There is some intrusion of reality when confronting the life threatening condition of her mother. Next, she meets an unexpected sexual partner in the person of the wife of her latest lover. Emilie however, is older and more mature and tries to bring her down to planet earth. In the final scene they retreat for one more sexual encounter, but it is unlikely that their relationship has any future. The whole movie is an interesting character study without I am afraid lasting impact. A person who attempts to conduct their life this way, eventually finds out that youth ends at some point and the rent is still due. See more creative u @RT08453977 Dec 23, 2022 LOVED this movie didn't expect it to take the turn that it did, based on the pictures posted on here. Good thing I trust certain critics to know what to watch and what to avoid. The film was really well made Anaïs Demoustier and Valeria Bruni Tedeschi shine through, it's a great thing it was directed by a woman, which you can kind of tell. One thing I did noticed though was the amount of things Anaïs gets away with, I couldn't help but wonder if the fact that she's skinny, white and feminine helped her get out of tricky situations that she created. I wonder if the character would've been portrayed by a woman of color would she have gotten away with half the things Anaïs did? Would it have been realistic? Well one can only wonder and honestly that's part of the main's character charm, she is -like many have pointed out- the manic pixie dream girl only this time the audience is seeing everything from her POV . Regardless I really loved this movie I expect it to be included in some 'best of lists' in the following years. See more Jun 23, 2022 I have known and loved women like Anais. Exasperating, unpredictable, charming, annoying, exhilarating, passionate... I loved the build up to the seduction of Emilie, and its manifestation. Very passionate, erotic, sensual.... I liked that the two beautiful women were not super young, and the age-gap romance has always be something that appealed to me - both as a young woman, and now as an older one. Beautiful film.
