Forced out of his own company by former protégé Darren Cross, Dr. Hank Pym recruits the talents of Scott Lang, a master thief just released from prison. Lang becomes Ant-Man, trained by Pym and armed with a suit that allows him to shrink in size, possess superhuman strength and control an army of ants. The miniature hero must use his new skills to prevent Cross, also known as Yellowjacket, from perfecting the same technology and using it as a weapon for evil.

“Ant-Man” is an easy movie to digest. It dabbles in promising areas and has its share of fun scenes and cool visual effects. But it also squanders a lot of its potential by traveling down well-worn and overused paths.

The original Ant-Man is just a really fun time. It’s a refreshingly small-scale, heist-style movie and honestly one of the funniest entries in the MCU. Paul Rudd is the obvious standout, but the supporting cast delivers too—Michael Douglas and Michael Peña are especially great. The action gets really creative once the shrinking tech comes into play. The scene where Scott first tries the suit and the final train fight are both highlights. That said, a couple things hold it back. The romance between Scott and Hope feels pretty undercooked, and Darren Cross/Yellowjacket is pretty weak sauce as the villain. Still, those issues don’t take away too much. Ant-Man ends up feeling a bit underrated and is easily one of the more lighthearted, easy-to-watch MCU movies.

Going into this, I was not really excited for it, but once I sat down and watch it, not gonna lie was I just hating it because of the third film, because this first film was actually very good, it’s very enjoyable and pretty funny and I consider it one of the best Marvel films I’ve seen so far.
