Blake- N @PBSAniDom Apr 18, 2026 The Big Picture (1989) is a smart, funny, and very underrated comedy about Hollywood ambition, ego, and the chaos of trying to make it in the movie business. What makes it work so well is how it balances satire with sincerity, never feeling too cynical even when it pokes fun at the industry. Kevin Bacon is excellent as a young filmmaker trying to keep his artistic vision alive while everything around him pushes him in different directions. The film has a sharp sense of humor, great energy, and a style that makes the whole story feel lively and enjoyable from start to finish. It captures the feeling of chasing success while constantly running into absurd obstacles, and that makes it both entertaining and relatable. It may not be as widely remembered as some other films from its era, but it absolutely deserves more attention. Overall, i'd gave it a 9/10. Kevin Bacon is a film student who wins a student film award and then gets courted by producers and agents (one of whom is Martin Short in a hilarious role as a weirdo agent - really the only good thing about this film).
