Sissy Spacek, always in oven mitts holding a hot casserole; Christopher Walken with his tape-repaired eyeglasses, and Brendan Fraser, handsome, multi-lingual Eagle Scout and ingenue make this delightful in so many ways. The many other fun characters, situations, varied settings and developments make lively entertainment. I'm sad for the people who need to be laughing hysterically for every frame of the movie, because there are so many funny moments, double entendres, surprises and clever turns of phrase in 'Blast' that if they were constantly howling with laughter they would miss the jokes. Otherwise, come along for the ride. This movie doesn't take itself seriously for a moment, equally poking fun at 1962-era morals and politics AND 1999 craziness. Brendan Fraser is absolutely perfect in his role as Adam, and Alicia Silverstone (whatever happened to?) is equally sweet and completely relatable as Eve. Throw in an over-the-top Christoper Walken, and you've got a zany, loveable fish-out-of-water tale. It's more "Brady Bunch movie" than "Back to the Future," but combining paranoia with innocence and today's anything-goes amorality, and you've got a recipe for success. For sure not as good as its predecessor Back to the Future, but Walken, Frazier and even Dave Foley are hilarious to watch, and there are some great zingers in there. Yeah, it is super contrived to set up the humor (the cult, time very long timeline, etc), but most of it lands pretty well. Silverstone was decent, but feels slightly off... the weird way she scrunches her face makes me think of Nelly from Little House on the Prairie. See more Read all reviews
