Despite the training montages and moments from your archetypal sports movie, Cassandro is more than a standard biopic. It is an engaging, often entertaining drama that treats pro wrestling and Mexican lucha libre with the reverence it deserves.

tender and brave. excellent acting by Gael. lovely details about Mexican and Chicano culture, especially the tension between the region's homophobia and machismo and the spaces where non-hereto-normative stars are allowed to shine.

Gael Garcia Bernal interpreta a cinebiografia de Saúl Armendáriz, o lutador de luta livre Cassandro, um personagem, no termo usado nesse cenário da luta/espetáculo, "esótico". A ambientação da luta livre no filme permite que o espectador, mesmo aquele não ambientado com esse formato de luta, compreenda tratar-se de uma narrativa de um vilão contra um mocinho, o combinado de quem vence, o sentimento a ser despertado no público. O ato final expressa a importância do personagem Cassandro para a comunidade LGBTQIA+ e para a sociedade, de maneira mais ampliada. Com Cassandro o lutador com performance que se aproximaria a uma ideia de feminino passou a vencer .
