It's a little too cryptic at times, especially with the rancher story, but you can tell the director doesn't want to be too heavy handed in her movies, which is a good sensitivity to have. The viewer is left with the impression of a world with limits and a cruelty that people are struggling to live with. No shootout, no fiery crash. Very smart to use Kristen Stewart as the object of unrequited lesbian infatuation. The middle story with Michelle Williams, I have to admit, left me totally indifferent. It’s one of those movies where the director tells you nothing about what you’re watching, but she does drop a few clues along the way to give you a chance to figure it out. However, when you do figure it out, it’s still pretty dull. If you’d like to see a small portion of Montana in late fall you might find it mildly interesting. They're called "subtle" but to me, they're dull. The pacing is always the same, never varies, no rhythm. The conflict(s) are mostly invisible. The cinematography is merely average. I'm always surprised by the actors willing to drag themselves thru the non-plots. But then again, actors like to act. I simply can't watch any more of these "films." See more Read all reviews
