Ann (Heather Graham) is a yoga teacher struggling to achieve inner peace despite the fact her family is driving her crazy and her dating life is miserable. She doesn't know how to say no and wants to fix everyone's problems. In the meantime, Ann struggles to save her sister Clio (Julia Stiles) from addiction with disastrous results. With so many expectations on her, Ann leans on her good friends Max, Frances, Roz, and Ella for support. They in turn set her up with a cute divorced dad Steve, who has an adorable 7 year-old daughter. When Ann meets Steve's daughter Lily, she is immediately smitten. But Lily does not feel the same, and as Steve and Ann get closer, Lily grows increasingly jealous and competitive. When Lily starts to misbehave, Ann sees that Lily can do no wrong in Steve's eyes -- she's in the battle of her life with a 7-year-old.

There aren’t exactly belly laughs in this tale of single yoga instructor Ann (Graham), but quite a few of zingers and bits that stick the landing nicely thanks to fluent direction and good comic timing from Graham and her excellent supporting cast. Go to Full Review

In terms of production, the film is standard. Go to Full Review

Emphasizing cutesy quirks over genuine emotion, this romantic comedy is a rather conventional exploration of relationships and self-discovery. Go to Full Review

they actually have decent chemistry. The problem is the script doesn’t give them much to do. Go to Full Review

Even if you judge this romantic dramedy by Hallmark standards, it falls short. Chosen Family is boring, repetitive, and uninteresting. Go to Full Review

Graham’s only impressive feat is having made a movie in which not a single character resembles a functional human being. Go to Full Review

Tubby B @RT17407333 2d Every aspect of this film is embarrassing, from the script to the direction to the acting. Heather Graham is a solid actress, but this film stretches her limits as a writer/director. The dance-off between Graham and her rival, a six-year-old girl, is unintentionally hilarious by virtue of embarrassingly poor judgment. The film would have played better as a drama. See more F G @RT80090364 4d Honestly the worst. The script is so stilted it feels like one of the end of year sketches at my daughter's school which are written by the students. Each scene has a flimsy set up, is poorly executed and played out by characters that feel two dimensional and exist purely to set up the film's final resolution of supposed self-actualisation. See more Sarah M @RT20133259 May 24 I can *almost* always find something redeeming about a movie, but this truly might be the worst, most unredeemable movie ever made. Painfully slow build, downright awful acting (yes, there is something worse than Cameron Diaz in The Holiday), unintelligible plot, should I go on? Save yourself the hour and a half of your life you'll never get back. Your brain will thank you for not making it dumber. See more Amy T @Aimshi Feb 15 This wanted to be a romcom. It had more to do with messed up childhood trauma both past and currently happening. There are an odd amount of low cut shirts and sex scenes, for a movie about being messed up by your parents. Can’t say that I would recommend even if you’re bored. See more petrs l @petrs Jan 3 The film is awful! From the story, to the acting, to the characters, to the directing... It is centered on a very neurotic character who uses his crazy family as an excuse for her codependency and horrible choices. It has no cadence, it doesn't flow well, and it makes some good actors look bad... And the end, where there is supposed ot be redemption, it has a poorly performed and edited, weak climax, and there is no good lesson in it. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. See more Clever G @RT81078805 03/30/2025 While there are some worthwhile lessons in this movie, it’s packaged in a super boring film. with some really bad acting. Heather Graham was the best in this movie, but she couldn’t save this. Love Julia Styles, but wow. So bad. Waste of a good hour+ if my Sunday. See more Read all reviews
