Actors (Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent) take on multiple roles in an epic that spans five centuries. An attorney harbors a fleeing slave on a voyage from the Pacific Islands in 1849; a poor composer in pre-World War II Britain struggles to finish his magnum opus before a past act catches up with him; a genetically engineered worker in 2144 feels the forbidden stirring of human consciousness -- and so on. Its sprawling, ambitious blend of thought-provoking narrative and eye-catching visuals will prove too unwieldy for some, but the sheer size and scope of Cloud Atlas are all but impossible to ignore.

[There's'] far too many actors in this town to have to bother paying Tom Hanks $100,000,000 and putting him in nine hundred scenes as different ethnicities and races.

The problem with many films offering multiple storylines is that interest ebbs and flows as the picture moves from one saga to the next. Cloud Atlas is unique in that all six stories are accorded equal weight and manage to maintain interest.

Utter drivel. My wife went to bed, and I stayed out of incredulous curiosity. Nonsensical, tedious and pretentious. Feels like a 5 hour movie.

There is absolutely no denying the scope, vision, and scale of a film like "Cloud Atlas." This is a movie I had heard very polarizing things about over the years, but never got around to seeing until now. I think it is a fascinating journey, and the different stories all brought something. I do think I liked some of the stories more than others. I also felt the way the movie would jump from storyline to storyline took some getting used to, and it did keep the film from feeling cohesive. I feel like this concept could benefit from a TV series format more than a 3-hour film. Still, there is a lot to enjoy here, and I liked the visual style more than anything. Overall, it is not the most accessible film, and it is messy in a lot of ways, but the sheer ambition from the Wachowskis is commendable, and I think it is worth seeing for that reason alone.

some great sets, some great acting in some of the stories, the plot was awful, half of the acting was trash, some actors were both amazing in some rolls and trash at others. was long with no learning to be had, stories super simple, the contrast of death and relationships was there but weak, you never got behind any character or story. I just give it 3 stars as 1/3 of film was good and the style of film was enjoyable (ie the multiple stories and sets) and i appreciate what they were going for. but I would not recomend or ever rewatch. this film could have been so much more but the script was utter gutter.
