We are supposed to believe these are intelligent characters (as they keep Pointing out), but they keep making such poor decisions. The silliness sucks out any realism. It’s so ridiculous and the whole point of a father and son reuniting in this unrealistic way is just corny. They even drafted in a ship and wolves. Its breathtaking effects—from towering tidal waves to cities swallowed by ice—give the apocalypse genuine scale, while Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal ground the chaos in a surprisingly heartfelt father-son story. The film also finds room for romance, humor, and a touching bond between a stranded man and his dog, keeping its emotional stakes alive amid the destruction. The science is certainly shaky, and not every visual effect has aged gracefully (let's not talk about the wolves), but the movie’s momentum, performances, and sheer visual audacity make those flaws easy to forgive. I knew that this film sas supposed to be pretty bad, that's why I didn't watch it for a long time. My low expectations are probably the reason why I loved it. The wolf part was unnecessary, the characters don't really have arc, the science is nonsensical and the politics are unrealistic, but I didn't care about these too much. I liked the characters and their conflicts. The story is generic, but sometimes that's okay. The emotionality doesn't fully work, because it's rushed. The directing has the sauce of the era. Yes, the script is not too smart, but the cinematography, editing, production design and costume design work together to create a colorful, dynamic world with some nice lighting. Allthough this is only true when they didn't go the VFX-heavy route. The cast is pretty good, the performances are good enough. The Day After Tomorrow is not smart, but a lot of fun if you let it be. See more K G @KatyG-S Jul 15, 2026 It did not happen after tommorow. "The Day After Tommorow" was bound to be a commercial success, yet the movie is unexpectedly not a critical success. When there is drama, you casted Jake Gyllenhaal portraying Sam Hall (son of Jack Hall). Given it is a drama, he looks too goofy - that makes things too optimistic. Hope may have happened in the end, but it got cliche with Sam's slight romance story & the parent/child understanding trope. Does not work everywhere. At the start, I can see the green screen is not great yet other FX are. Then again, maybe you should be careful of what you watch if there are factual inaccuracies. O Dia Depois de Amanhã cumpre perfeitamente o que promete: uma escala de destruição massiva, efeitos visuais impressionantes para a época e um ritmo que nos agarra do início ao fim.
