Dorothy is a powerful blend of crime, drama, romance and action, set against the rural landscapes of Tamil Nadu. Karthik Subbaraj brings a raw and emotional story about friendship, love, violence and human dignity. Keerthy Suresh is impressive as Dorothy, while Rishikanth and Sananth bring depth to the complicated relationship between the two friends. The film's exploration of caste divisions and toxic masculinity adds emotional weight to the story. Beautiful visuals, Ilaiyaraaja's music and strong performances make the experience memorable. Karthik Subbaraj once again demonstrates why his cinema is so difficult to predict. He refuses to repeat himself comfortably, instead using genre and style as tools for exploring human behavior. Dorothy may frustrate some viewers, provoke others, and completely captivate the rest — but indifference is perhaps the one response the film makes difficult. Ultimately, Dorothy is a bold piece of Tamil cinema: raw in its emotions, daring in its ideas, gorgeous in its visual construction, and deliberately uncomfortable in its examination of power and identity. Ilaiyaraaja — The Soul and Pillar of Dorothy And then there is Ilaiyaraaja. His songs and background score are not simply additions to Dorothy; they feel like one of the film’s fundamental pillars. The music gives the movie an emotional vocabulary of its own, often expressing what the characters cannot say aloud. His melodies bring tenderness to intimate moments, melancholy to moments of isolation
