Nick B @Yoshmin64 Dec 6 Enemies Closer may not reach the highs of Van Damme’s earlier films, but it’s still a solid and well-made action thriller. Instead of playing the hero, Van Damme goes all-in as the eccentric villain Xander, delivering one of his most entertaining late-career performances with wild energy and unpredictable charm. The story follows two former enemies, played suprisingly well by Tom Everett Scott and Orlando Jones, who must team up when Xander’s crew hunts them down on a secluded island. The plot is simple, but it moves fast and delivers tense, contained action. Director Peter Hyams brings a sharp, lean style, keeping the pacing tight and making great use of the dark forest setting. Some of the action could be stronger, and even though Tom Everett Scott is solid, the film might have benefited from a different lead. It would have been cool to see Jackie Chan or Jet Li. Still, Enemies Closer remains an entertaining thriller elevated by Van Damme’s scene-stealing villain turn. See more Lukas S 09/29/2024 This movie was definitely a treat with reuniting Director Peter Hyams (TimeCop, End of Days, Sudden Death) and Jean-Claude Van Damme together again since 1996's Sudden Death. This time around JC takes on the role of the bad guy which his performance gave me heavy Heath Ledger Joker vibes, Enemies Closes is entertaining and thrilling. Orlando Jones and Thomas Everett Scott were also great in this, overall this film was fun and awesome!! See more corkball 05/06/2023 I just cannot in good conscience recommend this film. It is just plain dumb. The plot is dumb, there are major gaps in logic and motivation... just dumb. I had to double take on the Orlando Jones thing. It took me 20 minutes to accept he was in a serious role. Well, seriously dumb. The other male lead was fine, but seemed totally miscast. He struck me as being an extra from some rom-com as opposed to an action star. Van Damme on the other hand, just completely hammed it up with an over the top crazy Tommy Lee Jones impression with an eco-terrorist bent and Joker hair. I wouldn't say his character was great or anything, but if you like Van Damme, you probably got your money's worth. See more steve d 06/13/2020 Fun action film with a different role for Van Damme.
