Michael F @RT77572997 May 7 Slow moving yet deep and great example of what an artistic vision can bring to a film I'm guessing with a low budget or grants. The lack of a cinematographer shows and the long drawn out scenes may bore those used to fast paced editing but Argentinian director Lisandro Alonso's first film since 2014's "Jauja" which played at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the FIPRESCI Prize. This film 2023 film featuring screened at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival in the Cannes Premiere section, no easy feat. After a deceptive bit if casting of Viggo Mortensen with nominations for three Academy Awards, three BAFTA Awards, and four Golden Globe Awards, the film becomes narrated by Eureka, a woman who transforms physically into another form, creating a connection between the years 1870 and 2019 and the United States, Mexico, and the Amazon rainforest. Its examination of the indigenous peoples of the Americas and their adaptation to specific environments across the centuries makes for a powerful and sometimes seemingly drawn out cinematic experience. Smoke 'em if you got 'em but just chill when watching as much of it is a slow burn so be warned, the result will be with it I think. See more Jordan S @satmary Apr 21 I love slow film- but this film is pretentiously long with nothing to say. it’s like the director watched Kelly Reichardt’s Certain Women and wanted to recreate the temperament but didn’t know why. the direction is quite weak, all actors don’t seem to feel much of anything when they speak their lines. they don’t seem to mean anything. disappointing See more Scott H @RT90960842 03/24/2025 I suppose there's something to be said about letting a viewer sit for a long time on nearly every scene in a film to really get the feel of what the filmmaker is trying to say. That said, "Eureka" is indistinguishable from laziness in filmmaking. Scenes go on and on and on. Even if you cut this film in half it would still be pretty weak at best.
