I didn’t know about the classic so went in totally blind but was excited by the main cast and thought it might be fun to see something light-hearted and possibly charming. Within the first 30 min clearly not. In 2020 what could be a reasonable explanation for Paula Patton’s characters eldest daughter who is clearly a biracial child being, in short, a surly, bad tempered, contrary adolescent, juvenile delinquent type called, wait for it, "Smash!""…who has issues." While her adolescent White counterpart is a lovely, smart, responsible, well mannered young lady with an angelic face and blond hair. The White father of the angel says his precious children, before meeting "Smash" never broke the law. Just for kicks and giggles they added the White man as the involved "good" Dad while the father of Smash is uninvolved, uninterested and, you got it, absent. So, no, I absolutely do not recommend this monstrosity of a movie masquerading as a nice family film. The two eldest girls were such brats, the Psammead just looked like a fat rabbit and the storyline was boring, also I just don't think a villain character was needed. Plus, why were the original five children posh? They were evacuees from London and it was just pointless to have them included, they basically added nothing to the movie. The whole movie just made me cringe as it was that bad. Four Kids and It contains poor acting, bad CGI and a horrific redesign for the main protagonist from the novel that will probably give you nightmares. To top it off, the kids might like it. You won't. See more 12/23/2021 Anyone remember the old movie 5 Children and It? This "film" is literally a ripoff, I prefer the older kids movies myself and 5 Children and It was much more entertaining. The 5 Children movie was released in 2004, the book 4 Kids was published in 2012 and the movie for 4 Kids released in 2020..... how is this not a copywrite disaster? See more Read all reviews
