Chad (Aaron Eckhart) and Howard (Matt Malloy) are junior executives working in the Midwest who are sent on a six-week business trip, with Howard in charge of the project. Both are suffering from recent breakups with their girlfriends, and, in a twisted game of male domination, they vengefully plot to both romance a deaf secretary (Stacy Edwards) with the intention of simultaneously breaking up with her and thus destroying her fragile self-esteem.

Ultimately, In the Company of Men may be a meditation on personal evil. And on a note as dour as that, I'd urge you to watch In the Company of Men, a 90s indie that's truly deserving of 'hidden gem' status.

I can't believe this film gets any praise at all. The premise is absolutely repugnant, and I'm not offended easily. Beyond that, it's senseless and predictable. It's bad enough that these two creeps want to hurt a woman, but the fact that the woman is handicapped makes it beyond cruel. This is supposed to show insight into make behavior? You have to really hate men to think so. This film is filth, disguised (barely) as "art." It's garbage. I feel defiled having watched it.

Ekhart is excellent as the sociopath behind this weird game. Definitely an original plot but somehow I was never pulled into caring about anyone or how things transpired.

Neil LaBute proves himself again to be a sexist, bigoted filmmaker whose characters love to blame women for all of their problems. The story offers no real message or interesting story arc. These two men treat a woman with a disability like absolute dog shit, one physically assaults her and the other has been cheating all along? I'd give no stars if I could and 5 out of 5 "fuck yous". I hate this movie so much I created a Rotten Tomatoes account just to review it.

Being cynical, cruel and funny, "In the company of men" turned out to be one of the most interesting and provocative movie I have seen in a long, long while. A smart indi movie that will provide you a unique "menage Ã trois". Strongly recommended!
