After carefree teenager Jay (Maika Monroe) sleeps with her new boyfriend, Hugh (Jake Weary), for the first time, she learns that she is the latest recipient of a fatal curse that is passed from victim to victim via sexual intercourse. Death, Jay learns, will creep inexorably toward her as either a friend or a stranger. Jay's friends don't believe her seemingly paranoid ravings, until they too begin to see the phantom assassins and band together to help her flee or defend herself.

I appreciate that Mitchell wanted to make this more existentially dreadful and not confine himself and his characters to working within a set of rules, but... there’s ambiguity, and there’s simply being vague.

It Follows had a great and hopeful start, but then somehow went WAYYY downhill in a way I didn't know was possible. This movie quickly went from edge of your seat and exciting to very vague, boring and predictable. I was excited to watch this movie for a while and all I can say is... What a disappointment!!!😭

Movie was not good. It’s for teenagers maybe? If you’ve ever seen Smile or any other similar good horror movie and then see this you will be disappointed. Too predictable, soundtrack sucked, acting was mediocre at best

It Follows is a masterclass in mood. I imagine if you think, for example, that Rob Zombie films are the pinnacle of horror, you’re not gonna dig it. But if you’re open to something completely original and extremely well acted, it’s worth a watch. The slow parts are slow for a reason — intimately illustrating who the characters are so you actually care and feel their fear when they’re in danger. Sure, I was left with some unanswered questions, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. It’s one of those films where you catch something new with each subsequent viewing. The cinematography and sound are eerie, unsettling and beautiful all at once. And the sense of innocence and unpreparedness on the part of the characters is remarkable. The group of friends and acquaintances dealing with the terror are totally believable. And miles ahead of the "spring breaking teens being sexy and getting killed" trope that we’ve seen a million times. Give it a watch.
