For a good part of his run time, Johar succeeds in crafting something genuinely absorbing and fairly uncompromising -- which makes it all the more disappointing when he ultimately succumbs to his more formulaic candyfloss instincts.

The film's efforts to be subtle or culturally grounded are the main faultlines of this otherwise gripping and emotional Karan Johar movie that tackles infidelity. The filmmaker has shown an easy improvement over the bad strand 'K3G' and weave his best narrative which, surprisingly and affectionately, doesn't get a, 'let-down' from its climatic happily ever after climax.

Of all the Karan Johar movies, I do think this is the most "hat-ke" because it goes beyond the traditional Bollywood love story formulas. Yes, there is a love story, which isn't very moral as it is rooted from cheating and infidelity, but at the same time it tries to break societal taboos like being able to get a divorce and have a happy ending
