Chris B @Papa13070 May 14 "The Butler" is a historical drama about Cecil Gaines, an African American man who served in the White House throughout several presidencies. It should be noted before seeing this film that although this is based off a true story (the real butler, who died in 2010, was named Eugene Allen), the director took many liberties, but it is still a historically accurate and inspirational story nonetheless. Filled with an all-star cast, this film is a hit or miss: the acting was superb,but it was a bit drawn-out. For some, it may seem like another Forrest Gump movie, but a superb cast with wonderful, Oscar worthy performances truly shines in this movie. Those who enjoy American history and pop culture are likely to enjoy this movie; for others, it may drag on and become boring rather quickly. Be prepared to sit through some rather emotional and dark scenes. At 2 hours and 12 minutes, "The Butler" is quite lengthy with some sub plots. It is still well worth the watch. If you grew up with a colored family and a father who dedicated his whole life to working and serving others with honest, clean work, this hits different especially when you’ve watched them grow old while serving the white upper class.
