While visiting Verona, Italy, with her busy fiancé, a young woman named Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) visits a wall where the heartbroken leave notes to Shakespeare's tragic heroine, Juliet Capulet. Finding one such letter from 1957, Sophie decides to write to its now elderly author, Claire (Vanessa Redgrave). Inspired by Sophie's actions, Claire sets out to find her long-lost lover, accompanied by her disapproving grandson (Christopher Egan) and Sophie.

By the time a Dos Equis "Most Interesting Man in the World" lookalike (Redgrave's real-life husband Franco Nero) and the background noise of Taylor Swift's "Love Story" show up (and come on, you knew it would), extreme Hollywood predictability sets in.

What a waste of beautifull italian light!¡! Everything looked good ...thats it for me. Im wondering what does a producer or director think when they make a movie so empty.It could have been so much better.

So predictable but saved by a charming lead in Amanda Seyfried. A truly ‘schmultzy’ love story of two age groups, but with a light touch. I really enjoyed it.

Oh my goodness! I came here to voice my frustration. I'm not sure if it was the direction but the story just didn't flow. The diolauge was so flat and painfully predictable. Strange facial expressions that were hard to read and terrible chemistry between all love interests made me grateful for the abrupt ending.

I loved the late-in-life love story of two people finding each other. The acting was very good, but the lack of chemistry between Seyfried and Egan left me feeling flat. I wish the director had developed their growing chemistry, but instead it felt like it just dropped in at the last moment.

Beautiful scenery with a cozy and quiet atmosphere. I loved the storytelling although it is considered “cheesy.” That’s what made it so enjoyable to watch. Classic romcom recommendation!
