See more yash b @yashbansal 05/08/2022 "Meet the Patels" is a sharp and funny documentary with plenty of well-made talking points. I found this movie relatable at times but it also provided insights into a lot of things I didn't know about. Sometimes the movie becomes a bit too uncomfortable to enjoy but for the most part, I laughed and was entertained. It is a documentary definitely geared toward Indian Americans like myself, but I think most people can find some enjoyment in it. Overall, I am glad this documentary came on my radar and I recommend checking it out. See more 03/20/2022 Meet the Patels is a charming documentary that is in the same vein as My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which I love. The thing I love most is that it has a lot more personality than some documentaries, including the cartoon segments, and the fact that camera work is incredibly amateurish. The camerawork makes the film seem more authentic and relatable though, it doesn't give off an expensive or pretentious feel, it's cheap just like the Patel (a constant joke throughout the film). The film also gets you rooting for a particular love interest, which makes it even more thrilling considering this is actually happening. I also love the insights into Indian culture and the sheer pressure to get married and have kids, which every culture has but not to the extent that Indian culture has.
