Gil Pender is a screenwriter and aspiring novelist. Vacationing in Paris with his fiancée, he has taken to touring the city alone. On one such late-night excursion, Gil encounters a group of strange -- yet familiar -- revelers, who sweep him along, apparently back in time, for a night with some of the Jazz Age's icons of art and literature. The more time Gil spends with these cultural heroes of the past, the more dissatisfied he becomes with the present.

Critics Consensus

It may not boast the depth of his classic films, but the sweetly sentimental Midnight in Paris is funny and charming enough to satisfy Woody Allen fans.

Midnight in Paris is a very unselfish and lovely approach to inspiration, love, and the written word. A must watch. Go to Full Review

This combination of whimsy and romance is, for me, much more successful than Allen's previous European city film, Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Go to Full Review

If the viewer is able to set aside their personal distaste for the creator, the film is a wonderful sit. If they cannot, then it steadily reminds them of the personality Allen curated for decades and that might just be a bridge too far. Go to Full Review

Tristan C @RT75770054 1d Really nice story and message and so nice to see so many characters from the past. The soundtrack is lovely although a little more variety would be nice, and I would have liked to see some more imaginative cinematography. Some of the script feels a little unnatural and stale but this is most apparent at the beginning and gets better throughout. See more Thyaagu C @Thyaagu 4d A magical, charming, imaginary concept presented adorably! Took me a while to catch up with its rhythm. Gentle and sweet still! See more Geo3 F @RT82897544 Mar 5 This is a good movie for a person who is an old soul because the movie is essentially about that. I like the cinematography and the visual of it. The film is not about the performances but about the theme of it and it that it did a good job blending humor and love. Overall, a good movie to enjoy. It mixes nostalgia, romance, and artistic wonder with such effortless grace that you’re instantly drawn into its spell. The journey through 1920s Paris is captivating, the performances glow with sincerity, and the whole film radiates a cozy, comforting charm. It gently suggests that every era carries its own magic and that the beauty of the present is often right in front of us.
