Marco L @decatur555 2 days ago Not Okay starts as a sharp social-media satire but becomes much more interesting when it stops treating Danni as merely ridiculous. Zoey Deutch is excellent at making an irritating, self-absorbed character increasingly human without asking us to excuse her. The film's strongest idea is that sincere regret does not create an obligation to forgive: harm cannot simply be reversed because the person responsible finally understands it. Mia Isaac provides the emotional weight that turns the story from dark comedy into something genuinely sad. Its observations about influencers and online validation are not especially new, and the screenplay occasionally overstates them, but the character work lands. What begins as a story about wanting to be seen becomes one about finally learning to see the people you hurt. Nowadays, many people do everything to become hugely successful on the internet, and they achieve this through lies, of course. I found the film very dynamic, but the ending is lukewarm. See more Ashley L. @RT94426878 May 4, 2026 Okay, let me try to review this quickly. While some viewers dismiss the film as “attention-seeking”, they are only 1/2 right. “Not Okay” started off uneven. The first 30 minutes were exaggerated and choppy. The rest of the film was illustrated through an individual who wanted to be seen, validated, and accepted. Her mom only provided comfort and pride from Danni’s “attack” rather than what she had accomplished in the past. As for Danni’s father— he showed emotional intensity as a reward for connection and validation. Danni gravitated towards the easiest path to recognition, only to implode her life in the end. Rather than criticizing a generation, the film reflects the environment that SHAPES it— one where visibility, trauma, and validation are often intertwined. That’s just how it is. What matters on Rotten Tomatoes is what we FELT, WITNESSED and LEARNED from the film we viewed. For decades films have been exaggerated to hook the audience for a reason. See more Filmey M @FilmeyMcFilmster Sep 13, 2025 This movie is cringey and painful to watch from start to finish. The story is basically a rip-off of Dear Evan Hansen. The lead actress is totally unlikeable, not just as her character but also as an actress. The only good message in this movie is that it helps one understand that America's young people today are whiny and entitled and overly-helicoptered by their parents and insanely focused on useless life endeavors with their time, and it shines yet another light on why America is failing as a nation. If America's future is up to the young characters that are portrayed in this film, we should all start learning to speak Russian and Chinese right away.
