In the year 2077, Jack Harper works as a security repairman on an Earth left empty and devastated after a war with aliens. Jack has two weeks left before his mission ends, and he joins his fellow survivors on a faraway colony. However, Jack's concept of reality comes crashing down after he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. The woman's arrival triggers a chain of events that culminates in Jack's nearly single-handed battle to save mankind.

There is a particular kind of film that earns your affection not through the strength of its ideas but through the sheer confidence of its execution. My entry point was M83. A score that was oceanic and synth-driven for a post-apocalyptic science fiction film was a pairing that did not need a trailer to sell itself. And then Tom Cruise. And then Morgan Freeman walks in. And then Jaime Lannister. At some point, you cease to question the casting and allow the film to envelop you. It only clicked when the credits revealed Joseph Kosinski's name. Suddenly everything made sense. You can draw a clean line from Jack Harper chasing drones across a depopulated Earth to Maverick threading a canyon at Mach speed. Oblivion, in hindsight, was a rehearsal. Not the science fiction film it occasionally pretends to be. But as a spectacular, beautifully dressed action film with one of the better scores of the decade, it absolutely delivers.

This is one of those rare Sci-Fi adventures that builds a believable world where the truth is slowly revealed to both the characters and audience simultaneously. Gorgeous cinematography, immersive set pieces, seamless CGI. Haunting, evocative soundtrack. There's plenty of action, but it reaches for more- and attains it. A rare gem that merits multiple viewings.

It’s not perfect as lots of other comments will Suggest. It is a great concept and lush cinematography. Cruise is excellent. A very enjoyable movie I’ve seen several Times. Def worth a watch.
