See more marina c @RT43609743 Nov 18 this film doesnt know if it wants to be a comedy or a drama - the subject matter being too serious to male light of. the fathers dialogue is so dated and makes him so unlikeable in this day and age and youre expected to find him charming. the big "reckoning" between Rashida and the husband is resolved in less than 15 seconds of discussion with no emotion or details. You watched the whole movie for this and it is so disappointing. you never understand why the wife doesnt take a more active approach, maybe depression but thats also not shown or sold. Bill Murray shows no expression and is a tiring character. the only good thing is the school friend who is a funny character but again the relationship between her and Rashida isnt explored properly. Waste of time See more Tricia K @Buff1980 Oct 19 This is the kind of film that has all the right elements yet fails. The dialogue is predictable and the message a bit dated now. It's also a bit sad that Coppola went down the road of cliches with both the father and the daughter. And the romantic pair not only lack any chemistry they also don't really pull off being parents. Technically, it's a really good film, but I just didn't believe any part of it or feel anything from the performances. In general Coppola's films are cerebral and detached, yet still evocative. Not in this film, and half the time Murray looks as though he is just phoning it in, which may just be due to his age I'm not sure, but he doesn't sell it. See more Read all reviews
