Alain E @AlainE Jul 5 An excellent movie based on a very good book. It is not about class distinctions or being a good butler. The main theme is being emotionally stunted and wasting your life. The character personifying this is the butler. Ms Kenton tries her best but is unable to penetrate his armor. In the process there is commentary about the faction of the British aristocracy that tried to appease Hitler. Like Saint Paul, Anthony Hopkins’ character will denounce his previous master three times, until at the end of his encounter with the country doctor he will admit that he did serve Lord Darlington. Hugh Grant and Christopher Reeves appear in small roles. The remains of the day will conclude in sadness over lost opportunities. See more Diandre R @RT53139537 May 15 Was this a well-acted movie? Yes. Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson did a very good job. Did I care about anything else in the movie? No, I did not. This was a very boring movie about butlers and how Mr. Stevens could not think for himself. It’s a very boring movie, and I honestly never want to watch it again. Overdoes the appeasement gang and Hitler, but does the story well. American producer, Japanese novelist, Indian screenwriter and Welsh star hardly likely to make the English look good.
