Long-settled into married life and fully domesticated, Shrek begins to long for the days when he felt like a real ogre. This is actually an excellent movie. I think that it suffers from having come out after two really poor sequels, Shrek 2 and Shrek 3. But it recaptures the wit and invention of the first in the series, and similarly offers a heartfelt fable, very much in the tradition of It’s a Wonderful Life. In another context, that would make it derivative, but in this case, it’s all tongue in cheek, and gracefully lands its comic and emotional punches. Highly recommended.

Ah ok, but I wonder how all these ogres happened to exist since at the end they were present in the original dimension. If they are now making a fifth movie I wish it would focus on knowing something more about Shrek's past, childhood, how did he end up living alone in some desolated swamp
