The film itself could've used more of an edge. Because once you carve out the lead performance and the central theme, Sweetheart is just your run-of-the-mill-sole-survivor-stranded-on-a-deserted-island-fending-off-a-carnivorous-aquatic-monster movie.

In many ways, Sweetheart is a very simple but effective story; a gorgeously shot creature-feature-survival-horror that does a lot with a little, elevates the genre, while also building sustainable tension around a terrific lead.

Um filme daqueles que não explica o de onde surgiram os personagens, como era a sobrevivência da protagonista a base de água de coco, peixes que ela mesma pescava na baixa maré, e coca cola velha, e nem se foi resgatada, que bicho era aquele e seu propósito. O fim bem xoxo só fiquei pensando que todo aquele incêndio era real e desnecessário, se não for, é um ótimo efeito visual.

Sweetheart never fully lives up to the genre-bending, creature-feature thrills it could've, but for those who can forgive its inconsistent, somewhat bland execution, the film may serve as just the right mixture of summer fun, intermittent suspense, and gripping shipwreck drama.
