Danny D @RT83005328 2 days ago If you ever felt an oz of love, beauty, or cosmic significance listening to John's music... do not taint it forever by watching this pile of garbage. Yeah. The Chad guy is awful. No depth. It's as if the actor has his mind made up that the character he's playing is a loser. Like when he puts on the "mask" to play John... he's saying "thank God I'm not this idiot." You can feel the judgement and the detachment. I would rather see someone who looks nothing like John play him... if he was played RESPECTFULLY. Additionally... a college age Annie saying "How can we be sure we want the same thing?" is just one example, but OVER and OVER John is the bad guy and Annie is the victim... who seemingly has the writer's POV on the whole thing. We don't see the marriage unfold equally. We see none of Annie's flaws. And she cut down John's trees for plumbing! He had zero gravitas in Lowe's portrayal, which I do not think is accurate. Anyone with John Denver's ability to create great music and write great lyrics couldn't be that stupid. Kristin Davis did an excellent job as John Denver's wife, Annie. Too bad she didn't have a leading man worthy of her abilities. It could have been a good movie. The film didn't really portray how famous John Denver became, and how prolific he was. It would have been nice if they had added some of the excitement attached to the heights he reached. He had nine #1 hits and 18 Top 10s on the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts. No easy task. The movie made it sound like he was a bit of a failure, and record labels didn't want him in the end. Compared to exciting biopics like Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocket Man, the John Denver story didn't live up to its subject matter, John Denver himself. I loved and grew up with Denver's music but the lip syncing took away from the only reason to sit through this thing. See more Jun 3, 2021 While it was interesting to learn a little about John Denver's life story, overall the film didn't paint a very warm portrait of him. Chad Lowe, who played the part of John, too often had a wide goofy smile on his face, making John appear shallow, 2 dimensional and simple, and we know he was so much more. The film seemed too desperate to create plots and twists so it focused on moments of adversity and conflict in John's life, such as the relationship with his father and wife, and did not strive enough to develop John's unique character or to spotlight his incredible talent, loving heart and gift of song that he gave the world. If the viewer didn't know something about the real John Denver, seeing this film they would wonder why anyone even liked him. If it wasn't for Denver's original music as the soundtrack (lip synched Lowe), I would not have made it through the film. There's an overriding vibe of super cheese with this. Was it some Lifetime afternoon broadcast movie? Chad Lowe has a certain likability in his portrayal of John Denver. I'd certainly say he has the look right. I was aghast to see John Denver chainsaw his bed in front of his wife. Bad ass, dude. LOL. I didn't realize he was so emotionally troubled, but it was likely due to alcohol. It's a real shame that this amazing artist died before his time. Kristin Davis had a good performance and I believed the grief that she portrayed. She's also super beautiful. The best part of this movie is the soundtrack because it's John Denver's actual original tracks. It's always a pet peeve to see scenes cut with tracks and see an actor lip syncing. I'd have to say that this aspect of this movie was just plain bad. I suppose it was worth giving this a once over, but I'd revisit it only and I mean only if and when hell freezes over in a layer of green chili flavored ice cream. Pretty unlikely, right?
