I’m not a huge anime person, so I never focused on this type of storytelling, but I have to admit, I thought this was actually pretty decent. It wasn’t bad at all, and the story was surprisingly complex. There was a lot happening that required you to stay focused. I don’t think I’ll revisit or rewatch it, but that has more to do with my personal taste than the quality of the film. I can’t bash it because they did a good job captivating the audience and building a story for people who enjoy this type of anime. It came together well. I will say the animated version is far better than the live-action movie, which I thought was terrible. Seeing Ghost in the Shell on the big screen all these years later was cool. The fact that it has remained relevant and people still show up to watch it says a lot about the impact this anime has had. Definitely worth checking out. An amazing and intriguing piece of immersive science fiction infused with sudden bursts of absolute violence. Staggers between two types of stories, the stand-alone story and the complex story. Characters aren't very multi-dimensional, but they're believable and often contemplative and poignant. The Laughing Man and his revolution is interesting as he tries to bring justice against corporations and government agencies that are hiding information critical to the health and wellbeing of the population. See more Mayank A @Mayank197 Sep 9, 2017 It's been 15 years since the release of the anime series, I only got myself to watch it now. Got to say the production values, animation, voice over and plotting is still top class even now. The setting is in a 21st-century society where cyberization and robots are common day features. Accordingly, terrorism, blackmailing and other crime waves are more futuristic like hacking into people's brain to making clones and such. The series focuses on a group of detectives/counter terrorists who are elites in solving such crimes, one could say modern day FBI. Each and every episode is a gem, initially each episode seems to be a standalone case, it seemed the focus was to introduce us to the modern society, only by the end do we realized it's all tied up to a mega case. The story is now only about showing great animation fight sequences is the case with other similar anime instead it makes you ponder over complex questions. The animation is top class, the fight sequences are still a treat to watch, from the conceptions to the detailed sequence, to the smart follow through. The same can be said for the sound. The characters, each and every one have their own story to tell, while the star of the show is Major, the supporting cast is well developed. Another stand out figure is the enigmatic Laughing Man, even when you don't see his face he leaves a lasting impression. One of the best thought out and executed anime I have come across. SAC does have its negatives (unrealistic at times) but there is plenty enough of good action, animation, dialogue, and interesting characters.
