Overlong, too violent and not sexy enough (prudish, even - the nymph Callypso is a mature thoughtful woman who would not even wear a bikini in the beach for fear of showing too much skin!). They got about 40% of Homer right, but missed some of the best bits (where are you, Nausicaa?), and distorted others (Helen's story in Sparta, conversations in Hades, Circe as an ugly witch etc.). Poor casting for both Odysseus (not clever enough) and Telemachus (not young enough), Penelope was ok. Some dialogues far too American, immersion lost. Did not know what to to with Athena (cryptic ghostly presence, no real agency) and the other Greek gods are missing in action, although we get to see some sea storms. Odysseus lacks a core personality, he goes from being overly sceptical about the gods to an exaggerated piety. Last but not least, Nolan stole elements of the hero's sad conversation with Penelope from the much superior film The Return. See more Sherrie H @RT00741633 Sep 22, 2026 I enjoyed this movie! If you ever studied the Greek Gods in high school, you will find this interesting! I was confused at times but I didn’t loose interest. By the end I realized that this is actually a revenge movie which was a nice surprise and very satisfying! When the movie ended I immediately wanted to see it again, because at that point, I understood the whole concept and was ready to put it all together! Every single creative choice is pure genius. The Greek ships proudly look like they were built by Neil Buchanan from Art Attack using cardboard, papier-mâché, and hot glue, even magically changing sizes between shots. Instead of a bloated cast, the entire epic relies on a tight-knit family of just six or seven actors, brilliantly supplemented by wonderfully glitchy AI extras. But the crown jewel? The rowing scenes: the soldiers don't even touch the oars, which move back and forth all by themselves through pure Hellenic willpower. Forget CGI—this is raw, adhesive-fueled cinema at its finest! This is garbage disguised as the theatric release by imitating release date and title. What a waste and poor storytelling (blowing over the most important parts), terrible acting, and worst directing and CGI I've seen in a long time. It should be legal to mimic actual releases this way to scam people into watching trash. Had this been even moderately decent I wouldn't be as pissed but there are no redeeming qualities.
