As the Allies prepare for the D-Day Invasion, a pigeon named Valiant (Ewan McGregor) wants to contribute to the war effort. With carrier pigeons being decimated by German falcon Von Talon (Tim Curry), the understaffed Royal Homing Pigeon Corps accepts pint-sized Valiant and his shady friend, Bugsy (Ricky Gervais). After surviving training, Valiant is sent on a dangerous assignment to rescue Mercury (John Cleese), a messenger bird taken prisoner by the Nazis.

I can't really tell you why, for a family flick revolving around WWII Carrier Pigeons it's an obvious gag, but just the idea of department devoted to crafting propaganda for pigeons gets me to smile and chuckle far more than it probably should. This film features a group of homing pigeons that must take a message from France to England during World War II. This is Vanguard’s first feature film and you can tell because the animation is not very good. The character designs are weird and a little off putting, the backgrounds are not consistent and do not match the character animation for most of the film. There is some serious talent in the voice acting: Ewan McGregor, Ricky Gervais, Tim Curry, John Cleese and Hugh Laurie, with all of them doing a good job with what they got. The writing is not very good and storyboarding did not produce great scenes. I would encourage you to not waste your time with this film. See more Read all reviews

Valiant (2005) Valiant (2005) Rollo (voiced by Buckley Collum) and Charles De Girl (voiced by Sharon Horgan), two mice working in the French Resistance, assist their British allies on a mission to deliver information to the troops A fiery French resistance mouse named Rollo (pictured) assists members of the RHPS on their dangerous mission. A group of top flight messenger pigeons from the Royal Homing Pigeon Service - (l-r) Toughwood, Lofty, Valiant, Bugsy and Tailfeather - serve crown and country during World War II General Von Talon (center, voiced by Tim Curry), the dreaded pigeon-eating enemy falcon, and two of his henchmen (Underlingk, left and Cufflingk, right), keep a lookout for British operatives.
